Youth Educational Performance Program (YEPP)

Supporting the welfare of immigrant youths in Finland is one of our priorities.

This program, Youth Educational Performance Program (YEPP) (October 2021 – January 2022) is created to support the educational performance of immigrant youths through mentorship and tutoring. The mentoring part of the program focuses on self and emotional management, life skills such as critical thinking, decision making, problem solving, communication skills, and broadening the perspective of our youths. Youths are matched with mentors who motivate and inspire them through positive relationships, story sharing, listening and encouragement. The tutoring part particularly supports those youths with challenges in the subjects of Mathematics and Finnish language by connecting them to suitable and verified tutoring programs organised by our partners.

Our approach is three-fold;

  1. Participatory research: The youths are involved at an early stage in co-creating the program to suit their needs. The research is done through focus group discussions.
  2. Mentoring: With passion and training, our mentors form positive relationships with the youths to broaden their perspectives, spur confidence and facilitate personal growth in line with the youths aspirations.
  3. Tutoring: Youths are connected to opportunities to improve learning skills in Mathematics and Finnish.

Our goals are to:

  • Be there for our youths by supporting and believing in them.
  • Listen to the youths as co-creators of knowledge on migrant youth wellbeing, for policy advocacy and best practices in support programs.
  • Foster character development and sense of responsibility in the society.
  • Stimulate cultural enrichment: Broaden world knowledge and global perspectives.
  • Facilitate relationship building skills: Youth-parents, youth-peers, and youth-authority figures.
  • Promote academic enrichment; broaden knowledge of STEM programs & upgrade skills in mathematics and Finnish language
  • Offer counseling / guidance on career, social and personal stressors.

To achieve our goals, we are partnering with:

  1. Science Basement
  2. FIMM Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland
  3. Moniheli (Omapolku)
