Think Africa Week 2023: Diaspora in Action

Helsinki, 17 November 2023 – Think Africa warmly welcomes you to the annual Think Africa Week as we celebrate a decade of inspiration, community building, dialogue, and collaboration.

A Decade of Impact

The African diaspora in Finland contributes to the cultural, social, and economic diversity of Finland. Engaging with this community promotes inclusivity and helps build a more diverse and vibrant society. This year, we commemorate a decade of fostering ideas, innovation, and partnerships. Think Africa Week 2023 will be a showcase of the real actions implemented in 2023, aimed at enhancing the lives of the African diaspora and strengthening relations between the African countries and Finland. The week underscores the tangible outcomes achieved, demonstrating the power of collective action.

About Think Africa Week

Think Africa Week has been the flagship event for Think Africa and focuses on engaging the African diaspora and promoting cross-cultural collaboration since 2013. Each year, it brings together diverse stakeholders, thought leaders, and change-makers to address pressing issues relevant to both the African diaspora and Finnish society. The events in this year’s Think Africa Week align with principles of inclusivity, human rights, and the social and economic well-being of society. Key event highlights include:

  • A pitching-style Slush side event that will showcase Diaspora entrepreneurs with social impact solutions on 30th November including a real case example of Diaspora and Finnish partnership. The story of how Onnibus Founder Pekka Möttö and Tichaone Dande founded a transportation business in Kenya, which will be shared in a fire-side chat at the event.
  • Looking at the recent crises in African countries, an event on the 29th November will look at Diaspora humanitarian actions in home countries
